Howth

Looking over the ocean from my perch

Today I ventured to Howth, a town about 20 minutes away from Dublin on the train, with Brittany and Laura. Let's get to the pictures, although it was so stunning pictures can never simulate it.

Views from the pier

We befriended a dog who I named Fernando. We later discovered its name was Sally, but Fernando has a ring to it.

Fernando followed us our whole hike, which we guessed was 7 km.

At one point in our hike we went off the beaten trail to sit on some rocks near the ocean and eat some Hob Nobs (digestive biscuits, like cookies). It was so serene to hear the waves and be on the cliffs.

Sometime you just have to make awkward poses on a cliff.

Pictures just can't capture the beauty of the coastline and the ocean.

Howth is on a peninsula north of Dublin, so that is Ireland in the distance.

After quite a long hike we bid farewell to Fernando, who had been with us about three hours, and got some dinner. We planned on then heading up to the castle there or trying to find the sea lions that inhabit the harbor, but it had gotten very chilly so we took the DART (train) back to Dublin.

I wasn't expecting a lot from Howth but the views were absolutely stunning and we had great whether. We just took our time hiking, finding vistas and stopping for Hob Nobs. It was one of those days where you feel like you're in Ireland because you witness its majestic beauty.

After arriving in Dublin we headed to the Savoy Movie Theatre (what a coincidence) to see Valentine's Day, which I enjoyed. The theatre was really nice, which I understand is typical in Europe, and had long red velvet curtains that pulled back when the movie began. That's a lot classier than the Savoy in Champaign.
Successful day!
